Today when I picked up Sean from preschool, he asked for a raspberry pastry from the bakery. If you know the American toaster treat called a Pop Tart...the Danish pastry called "raspberry slice" is basically a bakery made pop tart. Here you can see a photo and a recipe from another blog. We had plenty of time today, so I said sure. Why not. Sean is a slim little guy...If he wants a pop tart after eating two lunch boxes at school filled with rye bread and vegetables and fruit....he should have it! And, he has swimming lessons on Thursday evenings...so the kid needs some extra calories. So, we go to the supermarket. this is the same super market that he walked home from, alone, last February (more on that story later). I gave him a ten crown coin and asked him if he could run into the shop and buy the treat from the bakery by himself. This way we didn't have to lock up the bikes or carry the baby in....I could just stay outside and watch him through the shop window. Sean was so proud. He went into the bakery area of the supermarket, took a number, waited his turn, ordered in Danish, and while they filled his order, he looked for me at the window and waved. I so enjoyed all of this. He came running out with his package and shared the pastry with me. Sweet life. Thank you.
